This sweet yatsugiri-ban-sized woodblock appears to be a miniature design based on Shotei’s chuban-sized woodblock “Night scene of Mabashi, near Tokyo, Lake House” pictured here. Unsigned and without a publisher seal, we can’t tell if it was done by the artist himself, issued by Watanabe publishing, or a knock-off by a competitor. It bears a strong resemblance in design skill, printing skill, and color to many of the small edition prints of Hasui, also printed by Watanabe.
The Woodblock Print
This yatsugiri-ban-sized woodblock is in excellent condition; rich color with vibrant blues and warm tones, clean and intact margins, and a clean verso.
