About the Artist

Ryoshu Yamaguchi was born in 1885 in Kyoto, Japan, with the given name of Keizo Furuzawa. He was adopted into a famous Kyogen actors family, became a Noh actor himself, and began to study painting with Taniguchi Kokyo. The combination of Noh acting and painting finally led him to specialize in Noh and Kyogen paintings and woodblock prints.
