A beautiful, painterly view of the pagoda at Nara in winter. A deer wanders along the shore of the pond at left, willow branches hang gracefully over the water, and a few snowflakes fall gently through the sky. A simple palette and rich tonal blocks make this a captivating print.

About the Artist
Koyo Omura (1891 – 1983) was born in Hiroshima and graduated from the Kyoto City Specialist School of Painting under instructor Takeuchi Seiho. While primarily known as a traditional Japanese painter, having exhibited in Bunten and Teiten, he produced a small number of woodblock prints published by Kyoto Hanga-in in the 1940s-1960s. His printmaking style is very painterly in feel as a result of his preferred medium of choice.
