This mitsugiri -sized woodblock printed in the 1930s is in excellent condition; strong colors, no discolorations, delicate treatment of the bokashi shading both in the background as well as the subjects, and good edges. No margins, but that is the standard for this print. Clean verso with a "Made in Japan" stamp.
About the Artist
Gyosui Kawanabe was one of the handful famous female artists within the Shin Hanga movement. She taught Nihon-ga, Japanese traditional painting, at Joshibi University of Arts and Crafts, and was the daughter of Kyosai Kawanabe, the eccentric genius in Edo-Meiji era.
